Once youve spent money on some great diamond earrings, you will want them to last as long as possible, and stay looking like new however many times you wear them. Maintaining jewellery is relatively simple if you know what you are doing, and can mean a good quality piece will last a lifetime.

You can buy jewellery cleaning kits on the internet and in most jewellery stores. These kits will have everything you need in them to keep your earrings looking fresh. You should be able to use these kits more than once and they can be replaced once they run out. However, it is not entirely necessary to use a jewellery cleaning kit unless your jewellery has got really dirtytarnished, and if it is being looked after properly this shouldnt be the case.

If your earrings have just got a little bit grubby, washing in warm soapy water should more than do the trick and keep them looking bright. You can use a soft soap or washing up liquid and it will not harm your jewellery, and to really get into any corners or around a stone you can use a soft bristled brush (a paintbrush would do) to clean into the crevices.

If you are wearing your jewellery every day (a ring, bracelet or watch for example) it should stay relatively dust free and will probably be cleaned every time you wash your hands. With more expensive items you may want to take them off when you shower to prevent water damage - although with high quality metal this shouldnt be a problem. If you are keeping your jewellery for only special occasions, try to keep it in a jewellery box or satin bag which will protect it from dust or any other types of damage.

Keep an eye on your jewellery and if you notice anything becoming loose or bent you can always take it to a jeweller who should be able to repair it quickly and cheaply to make sure it always looks as good as new. As long as you are careful and do not abuse your jewellery it should be able to last you a lifetime and look just as gorgeous as the day you bought it.
