How to Do the Stephunky in Tap Dancing
- 1). Step down on your right foot. Your right foot is now bearing your weight.
- 2). Do a spank (back brush) on your left foot. To execute a spank, raise your left foot to the front and brush to the back, brushing the ball of your foot against the floor. Your left foot is now raised to the rear.
- 3). Drop/lower your right heel. Your weight remains on your right foot, but you should be standing on the ball of your foot not on the entire foot. Your right heel should be slightly raised. Drop/lower it to the floor.
- 4). Strike the tip of your left foot (the toe) against the floor and behind your right foot, which you are standing on.
- 5). Lower the ball of your right foot. Obviously, you can't lower the ball (the toe) if you are standing on it, so when you dropped your right heel in Step 3, your weight transitioned to the entire foot. Pick up the ball of your right foot and lower it to the floor. In addition, swivel your right foot slightly to the right when you are executing the ball drop.
- 6). Repeat the Stephunky starting on your left foot. Your left foot remains raised and to the back. Step down on it and then do a spank (back brush) on your right foot. Drop the heel of your left foot (remember to dance on the balls of your feet except when otherwise instructed). Strike the toe of your right foot against the floor and behind your left foot, on which you are standing. Lower/drop the ball of your left foot. Once again, note that it is impossible to lower the ball (toe) if you are standing on it so remember to shift your weight to your entire left foot after dropping your heel so that you can lift up and lower the ball of your left foot. In addition, remember to slightly swivel your left foot to the left when you drop the ball.
