How do I Change a Fan Speed Switch in a 2003 Sebring Convertible?
- 1). Sit in the driver's seat of the Sebring. Remove the center console face plate from the front of the stereo and heater control panel, using a flat head screwdriver to gently pry the plate free from the dashboard.
- 2). Remove the heater control panel mounting bolts, using a 1/4-inch drive ratchet and socket along with a 3-inch extension. Adding an extension between the ratchet and socket will allow you greater reach and maneuverability for working in this confined space. Remove all four bolts from the heater control panel.
- 3). Pull the heater control panel out of the dashboard, and remove the electrical connectors from the rear of the panel. Use your fingers to simply pull the connectors free from the back of the panel. Remove the heater control panel completely from the Sebring.
- 4). Set the new heater control panel near the insertion point on the dashboard. Install the electrical connectors to the rear of the new control panel. Start the Sebring engine with one hand, while holding the control panel in your other hand. Check all of the switches and selectors on the control panel, prior to installing the panel into your dashboard. If the blower motor control switch does not seem to be working better, replacement of the blower motor relay, or the blower motor itself will be necessary.
- 5). Press the new switch panel into the dashboard mounting area. Install the heater control panel mounting bolts and tighten the bolts with a 1/4-inch drive ratchet and socket with a 3-inch extension. Turn the bolts only until they are snug and no further. There is no need for torque on these mounting bolts, and over tightening will break the new control panel mounting tabs.
- 6). Reinstall the bottom portion of the center console face plate into the dashboard, then pop the top of the plate into position. Use a flat head screwdriver at the top to gently flex the face plate for insertion if necessary.
