If you own a pool, chances are pretty good that you know the importance of swimming pool water maintenance.
However, it can be overwhelming trying to find information about to keep the water clean.
The aim of this article is to give a couple of tips to make this job a little easier.
Because pools are an open water system, they are exposed to a whole slew of different problems that can be brought in by the rain, wind and people that swim in them.
Some of the more common problems include:
  • Pool Staining
  • Algae build up
  • Waterborne Illnesses' (Gastroenteritis, Dysentery, Amoebic dysentery, Cholera, Typhoid, Hepatitis A, Giardiasis, Cryptosporidiosis, Salmonellosis, Shigellosis, Dermatitis)
  • Pungent Chlorine Smell
  • Burning or Itchy Eyes
  • Cloudy Water
All of these problems can be corrected by using proper swimming pool water maintenance.
One of the most important things you should be doing is keeping an eye on the pH level especially if you're using chlorine.
Chlorine works best when the pH is around 7.

Having a solid pool testing kit is the way to go.
I recommend using the tablets instead of droplets as they tend to be more accurate.
Always be sure to throw away any expired tablets as their accuracy is lessened greatly the longer they're past the expiry date.
I also recommend investing in a pool maintenance guide, because these can be a real time and money saver if you have one on reference at all times.
The best of these guides will contain lots of tips and tricks that take the guess work out of how best to take care of your pool.
