Little Known Artist - Auguste Rodin

21
It seems to be the curse of sculptor's that their names are never going to be recognized by the community at large, and tend to only be recognizable by those who have actually made a specific effort to study art.
However, Auguste Rodin proves to be the exception to this rule, as the interest in Auguste Rodin trivia shows that there is a larger community at play who has recognized his artistic contributions to the world beyond those who have studied art directly.
An Auguste Rodin quiz will show that he was born in 1840, and that during his lifetime he was rewarded for his tireless efforts by experiencing a gradual but steady rise to fame.
The truth that most artists are not appreciated in their own time certainly applies to the earlier part of Rodin's life.
He was born in Paris, could not gain admission to the most prestigious art school in Paris where most of the greatest artists of the time emerged from, and so he had to hone his craft through working with other teachers and through his own practice making ornaments with his hands, carefully improving his sculptors skills as he went.
He was most known for his realism in his sculptures, and as this was in direct opposition to the popular sculpture at the time, Auguste Rodin trivia will show that he was totally unappreciated, and almost unpopular when his sculptures first ventured into the public eye.
As time went on, an Auguste Rodin quiz will show that he gained greater and greater recognition, in what could only be described as a slow burn to fame.
His most famous sculpture was "The Thinker" but a number of his other works are still remembered well, such as "The Gates of Hell" which were a portal to a planned museum (a museum which would never actually be built).
His later years were spent enjoying immense fame, as by the 1900s he was a renowned artist throughout the world, and he had strong followings in not just France, but Germany, Italy, Britain, and the rest of the western world.
Rodin's life would end on a very strange, and somewhat tragic personal note.
He had an ongoing relationship with the same woman on and off for 53 years, including a son together.
He would finally marry her in 1917.
She would die two weeks after the wedding, and Rodin would pass himself within the year.
