How to Adjust Power Settings in a Windows Vista Laptop
- 1). Go to the "Start" icon. Choose "Control Panel," select "Hardware and Sound" and pick "Power Options."
- 2). Study the window that opens. Your choices are a "Balanced" setting, a "Power Saver" setting and a "High Performance" setting.
- 3). Choose "Power Saver" if you're going to be working without electricity to get the longest usage out of your battery. Choose "High Performance" if you're going to be playing games or running complex programs. This setting drains the battery quickly. "Balanced" is for normal laptop use when being away from a power source isn't a big issue.
- 4). Adjust your own power settings with the Windows Vista program. From the window in Step 2, choose "Create a Power Plan" from the left side of the screen.
- 5). Select one of the plans from Step 2. When the next window opens, you can set how long the computer operates before it goes to sleep and how long before the computer turns off the display while the computer is running on battery as well as plugged in to an electrical outlet. Adjusting the monitor's display can also save battery life, so adjust it at this time as well. Click "Create" once you have your Vista settings in place.
