Battery Replacement Instructions for a 1993 BMW
- 1). Open the hood of your BMW, and locate the battery in the engine compartment. You will see two wires coming from the top of the battery's terminals.
- 2). Take your socket wrench and loosen the bolt that holds the terminal connector coming from the black, or negative, cable, then move it out of the way of the battery. Do this for the red, or positive, cable as well. If there are any fasteners that are holding the battery into place, use the socket wrench to remove those as well before continuing onto the next step.
- 3). Put on your protective gloves and use both of your hands to pick up the battery and clear it from your vehicle's engine. Be careful not to spill any fluids from the old battery, as this can cause corrosion on the other parts of your motor.
- 4). Clean the terminal connectors with the wire brush by scrubbing them both. It is imperative that you have the terminal connectors free from corrosion and debris, for an optimal connection to the battery.
- 5). Slowly pick up the new battery, and put it into the motor's battery compartment. Be sure to put the positive(+) terminal on the red cable's side, and the negative(-) terminal on the black cable's side.
- 6). Place the positive terminal connector on the positive(+) battery terminal, then tighten the bolt with your socket wrench. Place the black cable on the negative(-) terminal and tighten after. Make sure that you have each of the terminals securely tightened, to ensure that the connection will not come loose while driving your vehicle. After closing your BMW's hood, your new battery will be ready to get you on the road again.
