How to Make a Felt Pennant Banner
- 1). Lay out a large piece of felt. This will be the background of the felt pennant banner, so choose any color you would like for the background.
- 2). Cut a large triangle shape from the felt. This can be any size you desire. To make the triangle symmetrical, fold the felt before cutting and cut along the fold in a half-triangle shape. When you open the felt, the triangle will be symmetrical.
- 3). Cut a second, smaller triangle from another piece of felt that is a different color. To cut this accurately, lay the first triangle on the second piece of felt and draw a line around it with a pencil. Cut it out slightly smaller than the penciled line, making the top of the second piece an extra one-inch shorter than the background piece. This will be needed later to finish the project.
- 4). Glue the second triangle onto the first triangle.
- 5). Cut shapes and letters out of other colored felts. Allow the children to draw letters and shapes on various colors of felt. After cutting them out, allow them to arrange the letters and shapes onto their banners in the way they would like them attached.
- 6). Glue the shapes on the banner. Use a hot glue gun again and attach all of the letters and shapes.
- 7). Fold over the top of the banner. Use the extra one-inch on the top of the background felt to fold over. Apply glue along the edge, leaving a pocket in the banner. Insert a dowel rod into the pocket for hanging the banner. On each end of the dowel rod, attach a piece of ribbon or string to use to hang it up when finished.
