How Do I Snake a Bathtub Drain?
- 1). Remove the overflow plate (usually positioned beneath the faucet of a bathtub) by unscrewing the screws holding it in place.
- 2). Push the snake (also called an auger) through the pipes, entering at the overflow plate opening.
- 3). Once you feel resistance, spin the auger by rotating the handle. Continue pushing the auger gently though the pipe as you spin, if possible.
- 4). Remove the snake, and check if the drain is clear by running some water from the faucet.
- 5). If the water drains, your work is done. If not, try snaking the pipe again, this time pushing the snake as far down the pipe as you can while rotating it.
- 6). Replace the overflow plate by screwing it back into place.
