How to Make Cement Forms
- 1). Use two-by-fours to construct a form by nailing the ends together to form the shape that you need (commonly square or rectangle). You can use two-by-six boards to form deeper and thicker blocks of cement; however, this requires a lot of cement and is prone to fracture during the curing process.
- 2). Remove any grass and debris such as roots and large rocks from the area where the form will be poured. Smooth the area where the form will be poured to a nice even grade.
- 3). Lay the frame of the form on the ground and use a rubber mallet to hammer the wooden frame into the ground by a half an inch or until desired height of the cement form is reached. Smooth and grade the area again if needed.
- 4). Pour mixed cement into the wooden frame until the cement is flush with the top of the wood. Smooth the cement with a two-by-four, holding it flat and gliding it along the top of the form. This will scrape any lumps away from the slab. Repeat as necessary until the form is very smooth and no depressions are visible.
- 5). Allow the cement to dry for several days before removing the wooden frame.
