67

    Change BIOS Settings

    • 1). Turn on or reboot your computer. To access the BIOS press either "F2" and "F12" and "Delete" or "Ctrl" and "Alt" and "Esc" simultaneously at the initial logo screen. The exact key combination for your computer will be listed in the manual or noted on the boot-up screen.

    • 2). Navigate to the menu option "Boot sequence," "Boot order" or "Boot devices" using your arrow keys. Select the first position, press "Enter" and select your CD drive.

    • 3). Press "F10" to save and exit the BIOS.

    Install Windows XP

    • 1). Insert the Windows XP installation CD into your CD/DVD drive and restart your computer. Press any key when the screen says "Press any key to boot from CD."

    • 2). Press "Enter" at the welcome screen, and press "F8" to accept the license terms.

    • 3). Press "C" and then "Enter" to create a partition expanding the entire disk. Press "Enter" to install XP to the new partition. If a partition already exists, select it using your arrow keys and press "Enter" to install XP to it.

    • 4). Select "Format the partition using the NTFS file system (Quick)" with your arrow keys and press "Enter." ("FAT" is an older format, which will not allow advanced features of XP. The difference between "Quick" and normal formatting is that normal formatting performs a time-consuming scan for bad sectors on the hard drive.) Press "Enter" to install Windows XP.

    • 5). Follow the onscreen prompts to configure time, language and keyboard settings after the system reboots. After configuration, installation is complete.
