Understanding the Differences in Coverage
There are bound to be more than a few questions that are going to come up when you are thinking or talking about the different types of coverage that the different types of auto insurance offers.
There are the basic policies that only cover the bare minimums in terms of damages to personal property, real estate property, injury to the driver of the vehicle and all other people involved (passengers in vehicles to pedestrians) and collision damages to your vehicle and any others involved.
The most complicated policies involve comprehensive which is meant to cover damages to your vehicle from things not of your making.
The most basic coverage that you could get for your vehicle is designed to be there in the event that you are in a wreck/collision.
This policy is actually there so that you are protected in this event.
The policy is there so that your damages are paid for, and so are the damages that are done to anyone else that is involved in the collision.
If you were to hit a tree, power pole, sign or even your own house or mailbox you would need to deal with that yourself.
In the case of hitting your own mailbox, you are better off just replacing your mailbox yourself and not filing an insurance claim.
The other type of policy that is a bit fancier and more expensive has Comprehensive coverage included that is designed to make sure that you can get your car/vehicle fixed in the event that a deer or bear runs into it or it gets hit by a falling tree limb.
The main differences between the two types are the level of coverage that you are able to get and, in some cases, the deductibles that you will be paying before the insurance will actually pay for anything.
You premiums will also be paying are higher for the higher coverage policies.
