The Importance of Tension Wire on Chain Link Fencing

50
Chain link fencing is becoming a more popular fencing option in the residential market.
Being one of the most affordable fences, chain link now comes in a variety of colors including black, green, and brown.
When installing a chain link fence, it is important to use tension wire along the bottom of the fence.
This gives the chain link fabric a secure bottom, and prevents pets from pushing out of the bottom of the fence.
Tension wire is a 9 gauge wire that goes along the bottom of a chain link fence.
It comes in the same colors as the fence it self.
Tension wire is stretched from terminal post to terminal post and is held secure by brace bands.
When tightened properly, the tension wire has very little give and stays snug against the line posts.
Chain link fabric is also stretched from terminal post to terminal post.
It is secured to the terminal posts with tension bars.
The fabric is then tied in to the top rail of the fence and secured to the line posts with ties.
If the fabric is not also secured to the bottom tension wire, the fabric can be pushed out at the bottom.
This can lead to family pets escaping from the yard.
Once the fabric is secured to the tension wire, there should not be enough play in the fence to push out at the bottom.
The fabric is commonly secured to the tension wire with aluminum ties.
Tension wire is not expensive.
It sells for about $.
020 per foot at most local home improvement stores.
The small expense will give you peace of mind knowing your pets will not push out at the bottom of your fence.
