During a rubber band ligation, a rubber band is placed around the base of the hemorrhoids inside the rectum.
The band cuts off blood circulation and causes the hemorrhoid to whither away within a number of days.
Rubber band ligation is an outpatient procedure that is relatively non-traumatic.
Another method is the sclerotherapy, similar to the purpose of rubber band ligation, in which the chemical solution is injected around the hemorrhoids limiting blood supply to the hemorrhoids until the condition subsides and or the hemorrhoids shrinks.
Next is using the infrared light to inhibit blood circulation to a small, bleeding hemorrhoids.
This will shrink the hemorrhoids since blood flow is cut to the coagulated blood vessels.
Same thing when laser coagulation is applied, a new method that uses electric current to trigger chemical reactions that shuts down the blood supply in the hemorrhoids and shrinks the inflamed tissue.
The last resort, if all other hemorrhoid treatment options have failed, hemorrhoidectomy is performed.
This involves surgically removing the hemorrhoids with a scalpel or through laser.
