Smoking Side Effects No One Thinks About

17
Everyone knows about the harmful smoking side effects.  Cancer of the lungs, throat and mouth are some of the most serious ones. Emphysema, chronic bronchitis and high blood pressure are some other serious consequences.  Cholesterol and heart attacks are also well documented smoking side effects.  That these serious diseases are linked to smoking is not new to those addicted to cigarettes.  Yet they continue to smoke.  Obviously, these warnings are no longer sufficient.  Perhaps they have lost their effectiveness because they are repeated over and over.  Smokers have grown numb to them.
But what if I told you that there are some less known smoking side effects that are just as bad?  Would it have any impact?  Maybe, or maybe not.  Regardless, here they are:
-    ED:  Study after study has shown that men who smoke are 50% more likely to experience ED.  ED is really a fancy word for impotence.  Basically, smoking causes a hardening of the arteries which reduces blood flow.  This is not a good thing when the blood flow restriction is happening in the pelvic area.  This condition is quite embarrassing since it affects your ability to perform in the sack.  I wonder whether the warning labels on cigarettes would be more effective if they said:  “Warning:  Smoking cigarettes can cause men to become impotent”.  This is one of the smoking side effects that are seldom mentioned in the media.
-    Pyospermia:  Another attractive sexual condition that has been linked with cigarettes and smoking.  This one has to do with infertility.  Basically, Pyospermia is a condition of inflamed testes with the presence of pus in the ejaculate mixed with sperms.  There appears to be a relationship between smoking and this condition.  Studies are still ongoing about this scary smoking side effect.
-    Infertility in women:  Now we move to women for a change.  Smoking side effects have been shown to have a direct impact on women when it comes to this topic.  The more they smoke, the more difficulty they will have in getting pregnant.  Cigarettes also affect their ovaries, causes the loss of eggs and speeds up menopause.  Women that smoke while pregnant greatly increase the chances of a miscarriage.  Low birth weight and premature births are also more prevalent smoking side effects affecting women that smoke during their pregnancies.
-    Peripheral Artery Disease:  AKA PAD.  This disease is also caused by atherosclerosis.  However, it usually affects the legs, feet, arms and hands.  Basically, the blood no longer flows to your extremities.  It starts out with your extremities getting cold because of poor circulation, progresses to pain when walking, and can culminate in constant pain regardless of activity.  While it is rare, some severe cases of PAD have required amputation.
These are few of the less discussed smoking side effects.  Cancer, lung disease and heart disease are no longer effective threats for smokers.  Perhaps the smoking side effects of impotence, infertility and a life of constant pain can introduce a new sense of danger and make warnings more effective.
