DIY Steam Wood Bender
- 1). Place the 4-inch pipe on the table of a drill press. Drill one 3/16-inch hole through one side of the pipe 12-inches in from one end using a 3/16-inch drill bit. This will be a vent hole for the steam.
- 2). Drill a 1/4-inch hole through the pipe 6 inches from each end using a 1/4-inch drill bit. These holes are for the stainless steel bolts. Use the drill press to drill these holes.
- 3). Insert a 1-inch drill bit into the drill press and drill a 1-inch hole through one side of the pipe in the center of the length. The steam will enter the pipe through this hole.
- 4). Place the threaded cap on a work surface. Apply solvent cement around the inside edge of the cap with the included applicator. Apply solvent cement to one end of the pipe. Fit the cap over the end of the pipe with the solvent on it. The cement will react with the PVC and create an instant bond. Attach the PVC cap to the opposite end using the same procedure.
- 5). Apply solvent cement to the bottom edge of the tank connector fitting and insert the bottom end into the 1-inch hole in the pipe. Press it firmly into place. Attach the 1-inch hose to the connector on the outside of the pipe. The hose will allow steam to enter the pipe.
- 6). Slide one bolt through the pipe at each 1/4-inch hole. Insert a washer over the end of each bolt and tighten a nut over the ends with a 1/4-inch wrench.
- 7). Open the spout on the tea pot and insert the unattached end of the hose into the spout. Allow the spout lid to close over the hose.
