    Brown Patch

    • Brown patch is a fungal disease that is a large problem for many grasses, including Bermuda, in South Carolina. It develops during hot, humid weather and causes small to large patches of brown spots. To control severe infestations of the disease, use a liquid fungicide once every two weeks, once the night temperatures maintain 70 degrees Fahrenheit.

    Powdery Mildew

    • Powdery mildew is a fungal disease that affects many different trees and plants, as well as grasses. It shows up as a whitish-powdery growth on the top of the grass. To treat this disease, mow the lawn often and increase air circulation to the grass as much as possible. Add applications of fungicides according to the manufacturer's instructions.

    Helminthosporium Disease

    • Helminthosporium disease is caused by the fungus Bipolaris, starts out as leaf spots and eventually affects the crown and roots of the grass. Avoid using nitrogen-rich fertilizers during warm, wet weather, and mow the grass frequently. Apply fungicides if necessary.
