Planning a 60th Birthday Party

3
A 60th birthday is an important milestone and should be celebrated as such.
Here are some tips for planning a successful 60th birthday party that the guest of honor and your guests will love.
Start with the Invitations:  Invitations can help set the tone for the party so give thought to the tone you would like to set: elegant, humorous, whimsical, etc.
Your options are wide here so do a bit of research and choose one that you feel is perfect for your party.
Keep the Guest of Honor in Mind:   After all, the party is honoring him or her.
What would make them especially happy? It could be anything from inviting a long lost friend to the party to having a video of the celebrant's life shown during the celebration.
One of my clients told me about her mother's love for her nine grandchildren.
At the 60th birthday party, each grandchild created and read aloud a paragraph called,   "Why I love Grandma Kate.
"   This was the highlight of the event for Kate.
Decorations:  Of course the traditional 60th themed balloons and banners are great options and easily found.
Ask yourself what are some of the guest of honor's hobbies or interests? Knowing this could give you additional ideas about potential themes/decorations for the party.
It's also fun to put out retro candies for the guests to snack on as a bit of fun nostalgia.
Chuckles, Hot Tamales, Boston Baked Beans, Mikes & Ikes, Wax Lips, Neccos Wafers and Root Beer Barrels are a few of the popular candies from that era.
Music: Popular songs and groups from the 50s, 60s, and 70s would be appropriate.
Or ask the guest of honor who their favorite artists are - old and new.
Activities: It always fun to list "Who Else is 60" at the party.
Or read headlines from the day that the birthday boy or girl was born from prominent newspapers.
Or tell fun facts about the decade they were in as a teenager.
A little bit of internet research will provide you with a wealth of fun 'lists' to share with the guests.
Also, a toast, speech, slide or video presentation about the celebrant's life is always a hit.
Gift Giving:  Guests may want to give gifts with a 60-theme to them such as: 60 lottery tickets, 5 cases of their favorite beverage (assuming that a case hold twelve bottles or cans), 60 dollar gift certificates to restaurants, movies or shops, etc.
Party Favors: Although not necessary, they are always appreciated.
Any favors with a photo of the guest of honor are especially popular.
Photo bookmarks, personalized photo label mint tins, photo cookies and photo magnets are a few possibilities.
