How to Use Makita Router Bits
- 1). Unplug the router from its electrical outlet and place the router on its side on a bench. Lock the router and loosen the cullet with the cullet wrench supplied with the router. Although Mikita makes routers, you don't have to use a Mikita router with Mikita router bits. Any router will work.
- 2). Turn the router cullet counterclockwise until the shank of the Mikita router bit slides into the cullet. Slide the shank as far into the cullet as it will go. This maximizes the clamping pressure on the shank.
- 3). Tighten the cullet by turning it clockwise with the cullet wrench. Make sure the cullet is tight or the router bit will fly out of the cullet when you turn it on.
- 4). Place the router upright and set the router base onto your wood surface so the bit rests next to the edge of the wood. Set the depth of the router bit with the depth gauge on the router. Every router is different with this process, so refer to the router manual for instructions on setting your router's depth. Do not exceed 25 percent of the cutter's blades. Cutting deeper than this increases the risk of an accident due to a damaged router bit.
- 5). Slide the router bit away from the wood and turn the router on. Slide the router bit into the side of the wood carefully to start cutting.
