Eyelid Procedures

Eyelid procedures may involve the treatment of common eyelid problems such as ptosis, ectropion, entropion, as well as skin cancers.

Ptosis is the drooping of the upper eyelid. Ectropion is a condition in which the lower eyelid no longer touches the eye as it turns outward. Entropion is the exact opposite of ectropion in that the lower eyelid turns inward. It may involve either of the eyelids with the lower being more commonly affected.

Lastly, skin cancers may affect any part of the eyelid, but frequently affect the lower eyelid. Common symptoms are painless nodules, with some more serious cases having ulcerations. Skin cancers, entorpion and ectorpion can all be treated through surgical means.

Orbital Procedures

An eye surgeon often have to rectify orbital problems through orbital procedures. The two main procedures are blow-out fractures and orbital tumors.

Blow-out fractures are usually caused by a direct blow to the orbital part of the eye. When a hit results in a sudden pressure increase within the orbit it can cause the structure to swell.

Just like all tumors, orbital tumors may grow anywhere within the eyes orbit. Other less common orbital problems include thyroid eye disease and anopthalmos, which refers to the loss of one eye.

Cosmetic Procedures

Eye surgeons offer several cosmetic treatments to help treat common eye problems. These include brow lifts, dermal fillers and blepharoplasty.

Brow lift surgery is a simple surgical procedure that may take little over an hour to complete. The results can often be seen after the initial swelling has passed.

Dermal fillers are a biotechnological invention that uses a crystal-clear gel to ease the wrinkles and folds in the face, such as crows feet wrinkles. The procedure involves injecting the gel into the dermal layer of the skin using a fine needle. Dermal fillers revitalize ones skin, giving it a more youthful appearance.

Blepharoplasty is a common cosmetic procedure used to remove the annoying puffy bags located below ones eyes. It is also used to correct drooping upper eyelids. The procedure involves surgical means by either laser or traditional scalpel and may take 1-2 hours to complete. Eye surgeons note that though one may begin to see the first effects of surgery after a few weeks, it may take up to 6 months for one to see the full result.
