The Ideal Kidney Diet for Humans

24
Chronic kidney disease can be treated with a healthy kidney diet for humans. The said diet can give a lot of benefits to those who are already suffering kidney disease and to those who would like to prevent it. This diet can help control the accumulation of toxins, wastes, and fluids in the blood as it aids the kidney in decreasing its workload. This diet can also slow down the progression of chronic kidney disease to the permanent loss of kidney function or stage 5 of the said disease.

An ideal kidney diet for humans should control the intake of salt, protein, potassium, and phosphorus. A limit in the intake of fluids is also important. This article will talk about tips on how to control two of the most common food minerals - sodium (salts) or protein.

In a kidney diet, restricting the potassium intake is very important to avoid making the situation worse. Potassium, a mineral that is present in a lot of foods, maintains the regular beating of the heart, helps balancing the fluids, and allows our muscles and nerves to properly function. On the other hand, kidney regulates the potassium level in our blood. If a person has kidney disease, their potassium level in their urine might be too high, which can be dangerous to their health.

Controlling Salty Foods
Salt is very much part of people's diets because it makes the food more tasty and flavorful. However, salt does not help patients of kidney disease. Too much salt is not healthy because it helps in the retention of excess fluids in the body. This can then lead to shortness of breath.

What you can do is avoid or limit foods that are very high in salt. These foods can include snack or junk foods, canned soup, canned foods, smoked and cured bacon, ham, and luncheon meats, and even processed cheese. You should also avoid fast food as much as possible because these contain sodium at very high levels. To prepare more tasty and flavorful foods, you can add garlic, pepper, mustard, and lemon juice instead of salt.

Controlling Protein
Reducing protein can help in delaying permanent kidney failure, which is why it is important to control protein intake. Only those who are undergoing dialysis would need protein.

Protein can be found in large amounts in pork, beef, egg yolks, cheese, cow's milk, and other dairy products. You can opt for smaller amounts in cereals, breads, grains, vegetables, and fruits. If you really have to take protein from meat, make sure that you take only a very small serving size and stick to your limit.

If you are able to control your intake sodium, protein, and other minerals, then you can achieve the ideal kidney diet for humans.
