How to Test Water for Organisms
- 1). Remove the bacteria test vial from the kit.
- 2). Turn your tap water on and allow it to run for about 30 seconds. Collect the water in a clean glass or measuring cup.
- 3). Remove the cap on the test vial and set the vial on a flat surface. Pour the water up to the fill line on the vial. Replace the lid tightly and shake for about 20 seconds.
- 4). Place the vial in a warm location that will remain between 70 degrees and 90 degrees. Allow the vial to sit undisturbed for at least 48 hours.
- 5). Compare the color of the solution in the vial with the color on the chart in the test kit. If the chart indicates a level of bacteria, boil your water for at least 15 minutes prior to use to prevent illness, or use bottled water.
