Do it Yourself Granite Slab Counter
- 1). Measure the length and width of the cabinet. Cut a piece of plywood to fit over the top of the cabinets using a circular saw.
- 2). Place the plywood on the cabinet and shift until the wood is placed correctly. Test the top with a spirit level. Level the plywood surface by sliding shims underneath where necessary.
- 3). Drill three-inch deck screws through the plywood and into the cabinet frame every six to eight inches. Secure the plywood to the cabinet tightly.
- 4). Run a line of silicone-caulk adhesive in a zig-zag pattern across the plywood top and around the perimeter.
- 5). Have someone help you lift and place the granite slab on the plywood. Move quickly to center the granite slab before the glue begins to set.
- 6). Attach clamps to the wood and granite to keep the granite in place while the adhesive dries.
- 7). Bead a line of silicone-caulk along the seams of the granite next to walls and cabinets to make the top water proof and make the edges look finished. Smooth the excess silicone with a caulk removal tool.
