28
When you first discover that you're gay and want to come out of the closet, you may not know what to expect when you do come out of the closet.
There will be plenty of changes when you announce to the world, to family and friends that you are gay.
So what can you expect when you come out of the closet? The reactions are going to vary depending on who you were talking to.
The intensity of the reactions are also going to depend again on the people that you're talking to.
One of the first reactions is going to be shocked when you announce that you are gay.
Along with the shock may be anger, hostility, blame and other negative emotions.
This is something that you will need to be prepared for.
Not everyone can accept a change and sexuality in someone that they love and there will be plenty of belligerent browbeating, harassment and intimidation to get you to toe the line.
Unfortunately not a lot of people will understand or care to try to understand what being gay or homosexual or lesbian is all about.
Another reaction could be happiness.
Sometimes you will find people willing to let you be who you are regardless of your sexual orientation.
This includes family and friends.
There are those people that only want your happiness and when you announce you are gay would be happy for you.
While some may suspect the speculation will be over when you announce that you're gay.
When you announce that you're gay, people that truly love you will be happy for you and not try to change you to their way of thinking.
This is a best case scenario for you to achieve.
Disbelief is the next reaction that you may encounter.
Some will think that you were joking while others won't believe it's true.
They may try to make light of the situation or give you a hard time about your sexual preferences.
Just know that there are many different emotions at bay and you will be facing with the concept that you are gay.
Some people very had to have a very hard time dealing with the fact that you're gay and that your sexual orientation is changed.
This can be very hard to deal with on both sides of the coin.
Other emotions that can be brought up include betrayal.
People can feel that they have been betrayed by you suddenly changing your sexual orientation.
Dealing with people like these can be difficult.
You own your sexuality but they cannot accept the fact that you have changed your sexuality.
You may also be threatened physically, mentally and emotionally as well to try to "make you a man or woman.
" There will be some acceptance among people who truly know you truly care for your well-being.
You may also be ostracized due to your sexual orientation regardless of the fact that you are still the same human being you were before you announced that you were gay.
