Prairie Dog Hunting Near St. Paul, Nebraska
- The NPGC considers prairie dogs a nongame species and does not require residents to possess a permit to hunt them. Nonresidents, however, must have a hunting permit to hunt or possess prairie dogs.
- During the firearm deer season, the NPCG restricts hunting of other animals unless the hunter uses a shotgun, rifle or handgun smaller than a .22 caliber. Additionally, hunters must use nontoxic shot in wildlife refuge, waterfowl production and some state wildlife management areas.
- Public lands near St. Paul include Marsh Wren Wildlife Management Area, North Loup State Recreation Area and Leonard A. Koziol Wildlife Management Area. Loup Bottoms Wildlife Management Area and Harold W. Andersen Wildlife Management Area are also public lands in Howard County, located a bit farther from St. Paul. On private lands, hunters must have the landowner's permission to hunt.
