    Brucellosis

    • Brucella canis is a bacteria that is transmitted between dogs, often through mating. When a pregnant female dog becomes infected, the infection can spread to the fetuses and cause abortions or death to the puppy shortly after birth.

    Plague

    • The plague is caused by a bacteria known as Yersinia pestis, which is transmitted by rodent fleas. There are three forms of the plague: bubonic plague, septicemic plague and pneumonic plague. All can affect different parts of the body.

    Staphylococcal Pyoderma

    • More commonly known as a staph infection or a staph skin infection, staphylococcal pyoderma is one of the most common bacterial skin infections. Staphylococcal pyoderma can occur in dogs of any age and, rarely, some dogs may suffer from an allergic reaction to the staph bacteria.

    Stomatitis

    • Stomatitis is a chronic bacterial infection of the mouth or the face which causes severe pain in the oral cavity, weight loss, changes in the dog's coat or behavioral changes.

    Treatment

    • The most common form of treatment for a bacterial infection is an antibiotic. There are a variety of antibiotics that can be prescribed, depending on the type of bacteria present.
