Can I Get a Free Carfax?
- Each Carfax report contains a variety of information about a particular car. Carfax matches vehicle identification number with details such as previous repairs, vehicle use, number of owners, odometer readings, title information, accidents and more. That information can help you determine whether to buy that car or consider something else.
- You can get a free Carfax report, but that information is limited and tells you only if your car is a lemon. Enter the vehicle's VIN (Vehicle Identification Number) and you will learn if that car was bought back by the dealer and put on the market as a used car. If you want a complete report the cost as of 2010 is $34.99. Buy 5 reports and the total cost is $44.99. Some used car dealers may offer Carfax reports free when you are considering buying one of their vehicles.
- Carfax reports do not tell you everything about your car. If certain repairs or an accident have not been reported, then Carfax will not have that information. Always have a trusted mechanic examine a used car first before committing to buy.
