How to Use Recovery Disks in XP
- 1). Insert the Windows XP installation CD into the CD-ROM drive and then restart the computer.
- 2). Press any key to boot from the CD. Ensure that the system BIOS is set to boot from the CD-ROM drive before the hard drive.
- 3). Press F2 when the ASR prompt appears during the text portion of Windows XP setup.
- 4). Insert the ASR recovery disk into the floppy drive when prompted.
- 5). Insert the associated external backup media when prompted.
- 6). Type "C:\Windows" when prompted for a destination folder, assuming that this is the original location of the Windows XP installation.
- 7). Follow any other prompts until the restore process completes.
