UFC 145 Results

UFC 145 Results - UFC 145 went down on April 21, 2012, from Atlanta, Georgia. The main event was a highly anticipated affair between UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Jon Jones and Rashad Evans . Given that the two had once trained together at Jackson's MMA under Greg Jackson, there was some bad blood when Jones told Joe Rogan the following about facing Evans after defeating Mauricio "Shogun" Rua for the belt at UFC 128 .

“You know, we are teammates and it sucks that I have to do this, but this is my dream and everything I believe in. And I know that God wouldn't bring me this far to leave me, so I’ve got to do exactly what I’ve got to do.”

The problem with that statement, it appears, is that Evans felt hurt and surprised by it. This led to him leaving Jackson's MMA and both he and Jones engaging in a clear war of words and internet battle, amongst so much more.

So who would win the actual contest in the biggest MMA feud since Chuck Liddell and Tito Ortiz first squared off? Or should I say Tito Ortiz and Ken Shamrock?

Regardless, come back on fight night to find out.

Jon Jones vs. Rashad Evans Results

Jon Jones vs Rashad Evans Results - Every now and then a fight literally takes on a life of its own. Such was the case coming into the UFC 145bout between UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Jon Jones and former champion Rashad Evans. Talk about bad blood.
First, Jones surprised his former Jackson's MMA teammate by agreeing to fight him after winning the belt against Mauricio "Shogun" Rua at UFC 128. This prompted an internet and verbal war between the two.

Of course, the fight was slated to happen earlier, had it not been for injuries. What's more, the entire affair caused Evans to leave Jackson's MMA entirely, a place that he had called home for much longer than Jones did.

“You can't say you are not going to have anything to do with it when you are a big part of the reason why the situation originated,” Evans said in an interview with BloodyElbow.com regarding Greg Jackson’s refusal to take sides.

So without further ado, here's what happened when these two talented fighters threw down in April for the title.

Early on, Jones landed a solid body punch. Several moments later, Jones connected with a mild kick, later a knee. Jones came inside and was hit by a solid Evans uppercut. A worthy high kick nailed Evans in the head. Jones then started to pick his shots, landing a punch, then a low kick. A side kick by Jones grazed. A solid jab by Jones followed. A couple of pawing ones from the challenger connected. Nice left hook by Jones, followed by a low kick.

Next came a low kick from Evans; Jones returned with a couple of low kicks, including a hopping side kick to the leg. With Jones starting to pick Evans apart, the challenger landed a hard high roundhouse kick, which seemed to stun the champion. From there, Evans connected with a few more strikes before Jones seemed to recover.

Jones takes round one. But Evans did send a message with that kick.

The two fighters clinched early in round two, with both exchanging knees. Jones then landed a couple of solid low kicks. Evans returned the favor. During an exchange, Evans connected with a strong right hand. Evans connected with a mild jab after Jones missed with a few very hard shots. Then Jones went for a spinning back fist that missed. A low kick from Evans connected. Two jabs in a row from the former TUF champion. Then came an nice body punch, followed by a quick combination. After an elbow from Jones, Evans really started to land strikes, both punches and kicks in spots. Jones answered with a solid elbow, then another. The two exchanged strikes, with Evans looking hurt along the cage wall. After a separation, Jones hit home with a solid body kick. Jones really started to pick him apart with those elbows of his once again. Nice right hand from Evans. Big punches from Jones to end the round.

Jones takes round two. But this is a good fight. Those short elbows that Jones is throwing are pretty awesome. He’s using them like a jab.

Early in round three, Evans connected with a huge right hand. But for some reason, Evans let his opponent recover. a Low kick from Evans eventually followed. Then for a long period of time, the action came to a near halt. That said, the two did throw some jabs, etc., in spots. A flying knee followed by an elbow from Jones hurt his adversary later in the stanza. After another exchange, Evans hit home with a hard right hand.

Basically, the round could be characterized as one where Evans hit home with some solid shots. Jones connected with more strikes and generally was the aggressor. Still, it was a pretty close stanza.

There was nothing particularly of note that happened in round four, other than Jones continued to connect on his adversary with little retaliation. Evans is clearly looking for that one big shot. The 5th round? A lot of the same, except for some reason at the tail end of the stanza, Jones pulled guard. Crazy move, but nothing too dangerous considering the timing of it. Not a bad fight, but Evans just couldn’t handle those elbows, nor Jones’ reach.

Jon Jones defeats Rashad Evans by unanimous decision. The champ is very clearly the best in the world right now at 205.

Rory MacDonald Defeats Che Mills by TKO

Coming into his UFC 145 match up against Che Mills, Rory MacDonald was thought of as the next big thing in the UFC’s welterweight division. This left many kind of overlooking this bout. But would that be a smart move with a man as talented as Mills throwing down?
Get ready, get set, go!

Early on, Mills landed two hard low kicks. A good body kick by MacDonald was followed by Mills rushing forward and pressing his adversary into the cage.

Mills threw a hard uppercut that landed. However, he lost his balance and was taken down by MacDonald. From there, the younger fighter started pounding away with elbows and hard punches, cutting Mills as he took side control. As MacDonald continued to pound away, he achieved the crucifix position momentarily. And from there, whether it was from the mount or on his adversary’s back, he beat up Mills badly, leaving him a bloody mess with multiple cuts by the end of the stanza.

Great round by MacDonald.

Early in round two, MacDonald took Mills down easily. He almost immediately took side control. Then came the mount, then his opponent’s back. From there, MacDonald simply pounded away at the sides of Mills’ head with punches until the referee stepped in.

Rory MacDonald defeats Che Mills by TKO at 2:20 of round two.

Ben Rothwell vs. Brendan Schaub Results

Ben Rothwell vs. Brendan Schaub Results - The UFC is a lot like the NFL, in that many say that the NFL stands for 'Not For Long' if (fill in the blank). In other words, if you keep losing in the UFC you won't be there very long. Thus, anytime a fighter is coming off of a loss, such as was the case for both Ben Rothwell and Brendan Schaub heading into their UFC 145 fight, it's time to circle the wagons or risk losing your paycheck.

Wondering how their UFC 145 bout went down? Look no further- you've come to the right place.

After a long feeling out period, Rothwell landed a body punch. Then came a big time scramble, with both fighters trading from a distance and then inside. This was followed by a spinning back elbow from Schaub that sent Rothwell backwards, rocking him. Schaub came forward aggressively, looking to take his opponent out with punches. Instead, during their exchange, Rothwell connected with a hard left hook that dropped his adversary. A few strikes on the ground later and the referee jumped in to protect Schaub.

Ben Rothwell defeats Brendan Schaub by TKO at 1:10 of round one.

Miguel Torres vs. Michael McDonald Results - Having won three of his last four fights, former WEC champion Miguel Torres had some steam behind him coming into his UFC 145 bantamweight bout against Michael McDonald. Keep reading to find out.

Another hard right hand to the body came from the younger fighter soon after. Moments later, McDonald came forward aggressively with a hard punching flurry that landed on multiple occasions. And then it happened. Michael McDonald landed a hard uppercut right hand that dropped his adversary. From there, he landed some punches on the ground before the referee stepped in to protect an unconscious Torres.

Michael McDonald defeats Miguel Torres by KO at 3:18 of round one.
