    Mississauga Waterfront Festival

    • The Mississauga Waterfront Festival is an annual event that attracts an average of 65,000 people. The festival features entertainment such as fire eaters, stilt walkers, a family carnival, sports activities and water shows. The festival celebrated its 13th year in 2010. Past concert performers include Mississauga native Suzie McNeil, Sam Roberts and Tom Cochrane. The festival also features a children's stage with popular characters such as Max & Ruby, Dora the Explorer and The Backyardigans.

    Mississauga International Children's Festival

    • Organized in 1996, the nonprofit Mississauga International Children's Festival festival features Canadian and international artists performing music, puppetry, storytelling, dance and theater. The festival is held in Mississauga Civic Square, with 65 performances over a four-day period. It includes hands-on science and art workshops, and appearances by Canadian authors at a literacy festival.

    Carassauga Festival

    • Carassauga is a nonprofit community organization that sponsors an annual festival of cultures in Mississauga. Carassauga is the second-oldest community festival in the city and its largest indoor festival. The three-day event began in 1985 with 10 pavilions and today features as many as 21 pavilions representing more than 40 countries. More than 200,000 people attended the festival in 2010.The festival includes activities for children at the Hershey Centre Sport Zone that include carnival rides, face painting, giveaways and bouncing castles.

    Canada Day

    • Canada Day is a national celebration commemorating July 1, 1867, when the Canadian federal government was created by the British North America Act. The occasion is observed on July 1, but celebrated on the first Saturday of July in Mississauga. All Canadians are entitled to take off from work on Canada Day. It is a day of picnics, outings and other activities to celebrate the birth of the nation. The Mississauga festivities include birthday cake for all attendees, performances by popular musicians and fireworks.
