ITunes Won't Start and Is Not Listed in Programs
- 1). Confirm that iTunes does not show up in the program menu. If it does not, click "Start" then "Search." Type in "iTunes" and click "OK." The search program will look for installed versions of iTunes. If it finds a file called "iTunes.exe," double click on it and see what happens. If iTunes opens, the program is still installed. Right click on the "iTunes.exe" icon in the search window and click "Create Shortcut". A new icon called "Shortcut To iTunes.exe" will show up in the search. Right click on it. Select "Cut" and navigate to the desktop. Right click on the desktop and click "Paste." This will now place a shortcut to iTunes on the desktop. If the search does not find iTunes or if iTunes did not open, then additional work will need to be done.
- 2). Uninstall iTunes. If nothing happened when iTunes was clicked on then the program has become corrupted and will need to be uninstalled. Click on "Start," then "Control Panel," then "Add or Remove Program." Locate iTunes in the menu and click "Remove." Follow the on-screen prompts to remove iTunes. Restart the computer after the uninstall has finished. If the uninstall process fails, do not worry about it and restart anyway.
- 3). Visit Apple iTunes website and download the latest version of iTunes. This can be done by going to apple.com/itunes. Double click the install file. Follow the on-screen prompts to install iTunes. This should be almost identical to the first time iTunes was installed. Restart after the install finishes. When the computer starts back up, click on "Start," "Programs" and find iTunes. Open iTunes and enjoy.
