Motor Vehicle Safety Inspection Certification Requirements
- Seat belts will be checked to ensure they are anchored correctly and are in working order. Vehicles with airbags will have the airbag warning lamp checked as well.
- The brake inspection usually includes inspection of the master cylinder, brake pads, drum brake linings, rotors, drums, lines, hoses and parking brake.
- The tread depth on the tires will be checked along with the general condition of the tires and air pressure.
- A basic inspection of the headlights, turn signals, brake lights and reverse lights is usually part of the vehicle inspection.
- The inspector will evaluate the condition of the windshield wipers and see whether cracks in the windshield require repair or replacement.
- The mirrors, horn, fuel system and driver's seat might be checked in an inspection.
