    • 1). Navigate to your Windows XP Start menu by clicking on the "Start" button available on the bottom-left side of the screen. Click on the "Run" option displayed on the bottom-right side of the Start menu and a pop-up box titled "Run" will appear on your screen. Type "%SystemRoot%\System32\Restore\Rstrui.exe" (without quotations) in the text field displayed next to where it reads, "Open": and click the "OK" tab. The Windows XP System Restore utility will then show up on your screen.

    • 2). Click the tab displayed beside where it reads, "Restore My Computer To An Earlier Time" and choose the "Next" tab by clicking on it to continue. In the region called "Select A Restore Point" click on the "System Checkpoint" option. A list of restore point selections will then pop-up on your screen. Click on the option that reads, "Guided Help (Registry backup)" and click on "Next" thereafter. Be advised that some of the restore points available will display information having to do with updates and changes that will go into effect if chosen. Select the restore point you would like to use to rebuild your registry and click on "OK".

    • 3). Click on the "Next" tab when the "Confirm Restore Point Selection" window shows up on your screen. This will confirm the restore point selection you chose and will start the rebuilding process. To rebuild your registry proficiently, make sure that the restore point you select is from a date when your Windows XP operating system was functioning appropriately. Once your XP system rebuilds the registry to the functioning registry configuration you selected, your PC will be automatically restarted.

    • 4). Standby while your computer restarts and wait for the restore confirmation window to pop-up on your screen. Click on the "OK" button displayed in the window to confirm the changes and you will be done rebuilding your registry. Proceed to use your Windows XP operating system as normal.
