Hanging Techniques for a Window Scarf

18

    Measuring for Window Scarves

    • To find the appropriate size of window scarf or length of fabric, you must take the appropriate measurements. Take a length of string and drape it in the same fashion as you would the fabric using your chosen hanging technique. When you are satisfied with the length and draping design of the string, cut the end off. Use a measuring tape to measure the string. This will let you know how much fabric you need or the proper scarf size to buy.

    Curtain Rod

    • Hang a window scarf on a curtain rod already in place or attach a new rod above the window. Measure the height of your window. Measure that distance from one end of your window scarf and place a pin there for reference. Do the same for the other end of the material and add a pin there. Position the scarf on the curtain rod so the pins are above the side edges of the window. Secure the scarf in place with decorative cord or scarf rings. Do this for both sides. Move to the middle of the window and pull the scarf down so it drapes down gently between the two ends. Go to the sides and work with the fabric until there is a nice scallop in the fabric folds facing the window.

    Sconce

    • You can affix one decorative sconce on the wall on each side of your window to hang your window scarf. The fabric should dip down slightly between the two sconces. Tuck a section of the window scarf behind or on top of each of the sconces to keep it in place. The ends can hang as far down off the sconces as you want. Generally the ends would reach the bottom of the window or close to the floor.

    Scarf Hooks

    • You can use two or three scarf hooks to hang window scarves. If you want to use two, use the same hanging technique as described for sconces. If you want to use three scarf hooks, measure the width of your window and divide that measurement in half. Place a hook at that measurement and one on each end of the window. Find the middle of your window scarf by bring the ends together and looking for the folding point on the other end. Hook the middle of your window scarf on the middle hook. Bring one side of the scarf to each of the outside hooks. Make them as even as you can but allow the scarf to hang down about 1 foot or so between the middle hook and the outside hook. The free ends of the curtain should hang toward the floor.
