Draw the most essential elements of the Squidward figure in graphite pencil. Draw a sideways oval for the head, two straight lines for the sides of the face, and a downward drooping sausage shape for the mouth. Draw a guideline down the middle of the face. Then, draw two smaller ovals for the eyes. Next, draw in an upside down triangular shape for the neck, a teardrop shape for the body. Offset these just slightly to the right of the head. Draw two straight slender legs which slope gently toward slipper-shaped feet. Add a slightly rounded curve to indicate the underside of the front of the feet.

Create the nose by drawing an almost teardrop shaped curve. Draw slender arms as straight, triangular shapes. Use a ruler if necessary. Then, draw the right back leg, but not the left. On the left, only draw a toe. This gives the impression that Squidward is facing just slightly to the viewer's left.

Draw the eyelids, the creases above the eyes, the lips, the shirt, the suction cups on the ends of Squidward's tentacles, and the spots on top of his head.

Go over the final lines in fine point black permanent marker. Be careful not to draw unnecessary lines, such as the part of the eye which is underneath the eyelid, the portion of the body which is underneath the shirt, and the part of the neck which is behind the nose. Wait for the ink to dry completely.

Erase your pencil lines carefully. Then, begin to color in Squidward with colored pencils. To create the blue-green of the skin, first draw very lightly across the flesh with a dark green pencil. Then, go over the green with light blue. To create the dull orange of the shirt, first draw over the area with burnt ochre and then go over it with a medium orange. Color the ends of the tentacles lightly with a purple pencil, then use firmer pressure to fill in the suction cups.
