How to Record a TV Show to a VCR

    • 1). Tune your television to the station that you want to record. Adjust the volume to an acceptable level.

    • 2). Turn on your VCR and insert a blank tape. Press the LP/EP/SP button on your remote control; SP (standard play) allows you to record about two high quality hours of tape and LP (long play) gives you about four hours, while EP (extended play) gives you about six. LP and EP will give you more time to record but the quality of the recording may be inferior.

    • 3). Press record on your remote or VCR box before the TV show comes on. Let it record for a minute or so, and then press the "Stop" button, which is usually the button with a red square printed on the top. Rewind the tape and make sure that the channel recorded correctly.

    • 4). Begin recording the program a few minutes before it starts to assure you won't miss a moment. If you are not going to be home at the time when the show starts, program the VCR by pressing "Menu" and selecting the appropriate option for programming in a time for the VCR to automatically turn on and start recording.

    • 5). Press "Stop" a when finished recording, press "Stop", an automatically programmed VCR will do so on its own, and rewind to watch your program.
