How to Create a Waterfall Fountain Pond

10
    • 1). Create the dimensions for the pond. If you want the pond to be realistic, don’t create a perfect circle. Allow your pond to have ridges or jut out in certain areas. You can create the proposed edges of the pond by spray painting the dimensions on the ground. Spray white paint on the ground to create the boundary for the pond.

    • 2). Excavate the inside of the spray painted area. Remove all of the dirt and sod. Dig down to a depth of about 3 feet. Allow the center of the pond to be the deepest, with the sides of the pond sloping down to the center.

    • 3). Cover the excavated site with a flexible pond liner. The liner will come in rolls. Roll out the liner over the inside of the hole and cut it to fit with scissors. Allow the liner to come up over the edge of the hole. Flatten the liner down to get rid of any air bubbles. Then place rocks on the top part of the liner that comes over the edge of the hole. This will keep the liner in place and hide it from view.

    • 4). Fill the pond with water by using a garden hose. Then place the submersible water pump at the bottom of the pond. Make sure that the pump’s power cord and water tube stay on the surface.

    • 5). Create a rock formation at the area of the pond where you want your waterfall. Stack rocks in any form you wish. Then drag the water tube from the pump to this rock formation. Place the tube between the rocks, but keep it hidden from view by snaking it around garden plants or burying it in a small 1-inch trench below the ground. The tube can then resurface once it meets the rock formation.

    • 6). Drag the power cord to a nearby ground fault circuit interrupter (GFCI) outlet. The power cord can also be hidden by placing it behind rocks and plants or by burying it underground. The cord should resurface near the outdoor outlet.

    • 7). Plug the power cord in and wait for the water to flow from the tube and out of the rocks. If you are not satisfied by the stream of water coming out of the rocks, you can rearrange the rock structure or the placement of the tube. Water should flow freely from the rocks and down to the pond below.
