2010-11 Ashes 2nd Test Preview
Adelaide Oval, Friday 3rd December-Tuesday 7th December, 11am AEDT, 10:30am Local Wow.
What an interesting 1st Test we had.
If a hat-trick wasn't enough for you then how about two 300-plus batting partnerships to go with it, including of course a score of 1-517 and a double-century for Cook in England's second innings.
After Australia being in such a dominant position after the first innings, the momentum truly swung England's way and now they have the ascendancy heading into this Test Match and indeed, the series.
It will be interesting to see just how those in the Baggy Green will respond after such a demoralisng draw.
The entire team looked completely helpless and pathetic in England's second dig, several catches were put down and the bowling attack lacked any potency.
In order to rectify this the Aussies have drafted in two more bowlers into their squad of 13 (Harris and Bollinger) and both are a realistic chance to play in the Adelaide Test match.
You would have to imagine that Siddle is safe after his amazing performance with the ball in the 1st innings and Doherty's solid albeit unspectacular performance on debut would most likely keep him safe, leaving both Johnson and Hilfenhaus on shaky ground.
As for the batters, with no extra batsman drafted into the squad it would appear Marcus North's spot is safe despite failing with the bat in his only innings for the match.
For the English, it is unlikely they will make any changes to the side.
All of the batsman seem in fine form, with only Collingwood and Prior unable to make any decent score in their innings.
The question marks over Cook, Trott and Bell's ability to bat in Australia were well and truly answered while Pietersen seemed in good touch before losing his wicket in his only innings of the match.
The bowlers looked solid and at times extremely threatening, with Anderson probably being the pick of the bunch despite his few wickets.
Australia (Possible) Shane Watson Simon Katich Ricky Ponting (c) Michael Clarke Michael Hussey Marcus North Brad Haddin (Wk) Mitchell Johnson Xavier Doherty Peter Siddle Ben Hilfenhaus Ryan Harris Doug Bollinger IN: Ryan Harris Doug Bollinger England (Probable) Andrew Strauss (c) Alastair Cook Jonathon Trott Kevin Pietersen Paul Collingwood Ian Bell Matthew Prior (wk) Stuart Broad Graeme Swann Steven Finn James Anderson My Prediction: Once again the key to the match will be the opening partnerships but this time it includes the opening bowlers as well.
Too often in the 1st Test Match loose balls would be bowled allowing the batsman to score runs freely and therefore release any pressure that may have been building up from the other end.
If either of the team's bowlers can keep things tidy then they will go a long way to helping their side achieve victory.
They will need to get it exactly right though because the Adelaide pitch will most likely be very unforgiving in any mistakes.
The big question for this match is whether either team is capable of taking 20 wickets on a pitch that traditionally offers little to the bowlers.
Having said that, the last time there was an Ashes Test inb Adelaide, Shane Warne and his bowling buddies absolutely tore England apart on the last day, providing a completely un-expected result to a match that was destined for a draw.
Unfortunately though, with both teams looking fairly solid with the bat and mostly non-threatening with the ball, I'm not predicting we will see any Warne-like magic in this Test and am picking this match to end in a draw, with huge scores posted by both teams in the 1st Innings.
My Tip: Draw Session Times (AEDT): Session 1: 11.
00am - 1.
00pm Session 2: 1.
40pm - 3.
40pm Session 3: 4.
