How to Support a Tree on a Bank
- 1). You will need to stop the soil loss that is making the tree unstable. This may require adding structures, such as rocks or boulders, along the water's edge to help hold the soil around the tree roots. Settle these solidly into the riverbank as a base for the other rocks, moving them back and forth to create a footing in the loose dirt at the water's edge. You may need help, as well as equipment (a Bobcat, for example), to move large boulders.
- 2). Add more rocks on top of the large boulders, making sure to use progressively smaller rocks.
- 3). Fill in spaces with these smaller rocks, as well.
- 4). Add topsoil to secure the tree roots in the rebuilt bank.
- 5). Wrap the trunk with tree cable. Stake the tree to higher ground in a secure position.
- 6). Water and fertilize the tree to encourage healthy root-development.
