Your parents might need to talk with someone. Be prepared with your local PFLAG number, their web site and maybe even some brochures. Even if it seems like they are not going to accept you, remember that people do change and most parents do come around.

You might not want the whole family to know about your sexual orientation, but be aware that your parents are going to need support and may talk to others.

That is their right. If there’s someone you don’t want them to tell, be sure to ask.

Congratulations! You did it. Give your parents the space they need and take some for yourself. Do something special for yourself. Take a hot bath. Meet friends for dinner or go to a movie. You might want to be around other gay and lesbian people, so stop in a gay bar, coffeehouse or 12-step meeting. Congratulate yourself. You did it!
