    Clay M. Chandler Outstanding Freshman Biology Award and Scholarship

    • Students who achieve academic excellence in their senior years of high school are eligible to receive a Clay M. Chandler Outstanding Freshman Biology Award and Scholarship. Awards are administered through Middle Tennessee State University's Biology Department. As of February 2011, the amount of the scholarship was $500. No application is necessary to apply for the award. The number of scholarships awarded each year varies.

    National Garden Clubs Inc. College Scholarships

    • Students who major in biology and study horticulture and the environment and who are United States citizens or permanent legal residents of the United States are eligible to receive the National Garden Clubs Inc. College Scholarships. Award recipients must maintain at least a 3.25 grade point average (GPA) while in college. Additionally, students must be in their junior or senior years of undergraduate study. If students are pursuing a master's degree, they can also receive the scholarships. The scholarships cover tuition for one year. A total of 35 scholarships are scheduled to be awarded in 2011; the amount of the scholarships is $3,500.

    Paul and Marge Hartman Freshman Scholarship

    • If students attend Iowa State University and major in biology they can apply to receive a Paul and Marge Hartman Freshman Scholarship. Preference is given to students who rank in the top 10 percent on their ACT or SAT tests or on their high school national assessment tests. As of February, 2011, award recipients receive $750 to help cover their tuition, lab fees, and book expenses during their first year of college. A 300-word essay must accompany scholarship applications. The number of scholarships awarded each year varies.

    Kathleen S. Anderson Scholarship

    • As of February, 2011, one to two freshmen students a year receive a $1,000 Kathleen S. Anderson Scholarship. Students must major in biology; they can attend any college or university in the United States. If only one scholarship is awarded, the student receives the full $1,000 scholarship. The $1,000 scholarship is split in half if two students are awarded a scholarship in a single year so that each student receives a $500 award.
