Rohan Skea Knows Good Red
Rohan Skea, a law and business professional from Western Australia, was the founder and developer of Mt Shadforth Estate Vineyard and Wine Production facility and believes he knows the value of a good red.
The Mt Shadforth Estate Vineyard is situated in the Denmark wine region of Western Australia, and if the environment is anything to go by, you can bet wine from this region will be worthy of attention. Denmark enjoys higher than average rainfall for WA and has mild summer temperatures that are particularly suited to the Merlot, Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Noir and Chardonnay types of wines. For over 30 years, wines have been grown and produced in this area and the wines of Western Australia are some of the best in the world, you could easily see why Skea would want to be involved with such an undertaking.
Rohan Skea has been an active community member in Perth all his life, and after studying Law at Monash University he has worked with some high profile law firms, and specialized in corporate law and M&A. Over the past few years’ domestic wine sales have been steadily increasing in Australia, however the real money can be made in the export market where annual sales exceed the $3 billion mark last year.
Skea might have made the four and a half hour trip to Denmark regularly to visit the estate but when we asked why he made the move from mining deals to the wine industry Rohan Skea had this to say “Doing business in WA has always been my main ambition and I have always looked for opportunities that are unique to people from Western Australia, however I also appreciate the value of a good red. Around the world people are recognizing that Australian wines are outstanding. I love the Denmark wine region and appreciate the natural beauty of the area".
