How to Make Your Own CD Headboard
- 1). Draw lines to make an outline of the headboard on the wall where the bed will sit. The headboard can be as wide and as tall as you wish. The lines should extend four inches below the top of the mattress to hide the last row of CDs. Each square foot of headboard will require nine CDs. For example, the typical headboard for a twin bed, which measures 3 feet by 3 feet, will require approximately 81 CDs.
- 2). Begin at the top left corner of the headboard outline on the wall. Place a piece of double-sided tape or poster tape to the label side of the CD. Place the CD so it overlaps the top and left side line of the penciled-in headboard outline. Make sure the iridescent side of the CD is showing to. This will allow the headboard to reflect light, creating a sparkle effect.
- 3). Continue adhering CDs across the top line of the penciled-in headboard outline. Place each CD so that it just touches the side of the one before it. Make sure the CDs are level on top, following the pencil line.
- 4). Add the second row of CDs on the headboard working right to left, overlapping the top row of CDs. Overlap the CDs over the top row so the wall does not show between the rows. Continue applying the CDs in rows so that they touch side to side and overlap the row above to obscure the wall and center hole of the CDs until the desired headboard area is filled with CDs. Work left to right to add the third row, right to left for the fourth, and so on until you have filled the headboard outline with CDs.
- 5). Place 1/4-inch-thick foam pop dots, found in the scrapbooking section of a craft store, behind the CDs as the layers begin to gap between the wall and the previous layer. You will need to do this at about the fourth line of CDs. Approximately every four lines, fill in the gap between the wall and CDs with foam pop dots. Peel the tabs off to allow the adhesive on the dots to stick to the wall and CDs. Place one dot on each CD to fill the space between the wall and the CD on the fourth row. The eighth row will require two pop dots stacked together to fill the space between the wall and the CDs.
- 6). Slide the bed back against the CD headboard. The mattress should cover the last row of CDs enough to hide the center holes.
