Correct Way to Draw a Bow
- 1). Stand with your feet about shoulder-length apart and in line with your target. Hold the bow with your less dominant, or weakest, hand. This leaves your strongest hand to pull back the bowstring, which can be difficult for a beginner.
- 2). Place an arrow in your bow, with the front of the arrow on the arrow shelf and the back of the arrow on the bowstring. There is a notch on the back of the arrow. Ensure this notch is on the bowstring securely. Ensure the bow is pointing to the ground as you do this.
- 3). Curl your index finger around the bowstring just above the arrow and curl your ring and third finger around the string just below the arrow. This allows you to hold the arrow in place and gives you grip as you draw the string back.
- 4). Draw the bowstring back as you lift the bow in line with your eyes. Sight the target down the arrow and pull the bowstring all the way back to the side of your face. This is the anchor point. With the bowstring fully pulled back, allow your fingers to slip free of the bowstring and let the arrow fly.
