Harrah"s Reno Casino
Harrah's Reno casino sits in the center of the downtown casino area at 219 North Center Street, Reno, NV 89501. The property has changed considerably over the years, but in its current incarnation spans Virginia Street and one-way Center Street where valet and self-parking are both located. Although Virginia Street is the "local" access for most of the downtown casinos, there is no parking. Each casino offers their own facilities for guest vehicles.
Accomodations
The casino area was originally found on Virginia Street, facing the Silver Spur and Horseshoe casinos. Next door was the Nevada Club. The three story building housed Bill Harrah's offices upstairs and a slot repair and storage facility downstairs.
After a successful start in the 1940's, Bill Harrah expanded across the alley towards Center Street with a casino named simply Harrah's. This part of the building is on the corner of Second and Center. At one time the casino held 2000 slot machines and 102 table games, including 18 crap tables.
Harrah's hotel was built in 1969, so the 600 original rooms are considered "classic," which in this property's case means neat, clean, and small. Most rooms have old 32-inch TV's in a wardrobe in front of the bed.You can expect reasonably priced rooms below $75 much of the year. Internet use is extra. As a tourist area, rooms in Reno are likely to be highest at all major holidays and during the summer months.
A new addition offers visitors a second hotel tower and an overall total of 928 rooms.
Dogs are permitted in a designated area and kennels are also located in the Valet Porte; pet care is the responsibility of each pet owner.
Dining
The property offers seven restaurants, and a 24-hour full menu is available in the Hash House A Go Go located near the hotel tower elevators and the skywalk to the Center Street casino. Carvings Buffet serves a wide selection with seven food stations but the all-you-can-eat restaurant does not open until 10 a.m. Starbucks opens at 5:30 a.m.
Other choices include Ichiban, Joy Luck Noodle Bar and Quiznos. If you prefer a sumptuous meal in a cozy setting, Harrah's Steak House has been elected into the prestigious Nation's Restaurant News Fine Dining Hall of Fame, the first restaurant in Northern Nevada to receive the honor. Average meal cost is about $30 per person.
