The most fertile time for a woman is two or three days before ovulation.
Ovulation is when your body releases an egg from the ovaries.
That egg only remains in the fallopian tubes for a maximum of 24 hours.
As the male sperm can survive within the body for up to a week, having sex two to three days before ovulation is to occur ensures that you have the highest possible chance of a sperm reaching the egg and for fertilisation to take place.
There are several things you can do to gauge when ovulation is likely to happen.
These include the costly method of taking an ovulation predictor test, monitoring either your cervical mucus or your body basal temperature, or using the newest method of ovulation predictor - the OV watch.
Remember, the younger and healthier you are, the more likely you are to conceive quickly.
It is a great deal harder, and more of a struggle,for older women to conceive and have a baby, as the quality of the eggs decrease each year.
Also, women who are underweight or overweight have a harder time conceiving than those women whose body mass index (BMI) falls within the normal range.
