How to Hunt on a Military Base
- Every military installation is different. Some allow hunting, while others may not. While most of the rules and regulations are the same base to base, it is best to contact the Directorate of Public Works (DPW) on each base, which is in charge of hunting. The best way to find their contact information is to look up the DPW on the installation, or call the base's visitor's center.
- Installations that allow hunting require hunters to have a permit to hunt on the installation. This is different from a hunting license that is issued by the state. To obtain a permit, each hunter must submit a form to the DPW. In addition, all hunters are required to have a hunting license issued by the state in order to hunt on a military base.
- Hunters wishing to hunt on any Army installation must complete an NRA certified hunter safety course. Hunters must register for the course through the state office.
- In order to get onto the installation, all vehicles are required to either have a Department of Defense (DoD) decal sticker or have a valid pass. Be sure to contact the DPW before entering the installation with weapons.
