Poultry, the word itself has a warm feeling to it. Poultry is a place where a specific category of birds are kept such as chicken and turkey. Poultry is the category of domesticated birds that people keep for the purpose of collecting their eggs, or killing for their meat or feathers. Birds like turkey and chicken are eaten throughout the world not only because of their taste but also because it is the healthiest meat available. It is the most enriched eat in terms of proteins, vitamins and health. The term poultry also refers to the flesh of birds like chicken and turkey. These birds are healthy to eat because they contain low saturated fats as compared to red meat.

Poultry are often used in place of red meat in low-fat diets to reduce cholesterol raising and inflammatory effects of eating saturated fats. It is also considered much more delicious than other meat because of its healthy taste and less saturated fats. Other meats like red meat are high in cholesterol and saturated fats. Major poultry fats are in the skin of a chicken or a turkey. When you cook a turkey or a chicken you rip off their skin so the majority of the fats are removed. One cup of cooked chicken breast meat without the skin has 1 gram of saturated fat and slightly more than 200 calories especially because of the darker meat of the legs and thighs which has a little fat and calories left.

Turkey is more healthy than chicken because of lesser fats. Therefore in continental and healthy foods turkey is preferred over chicken. However, in eastern cooking or healthy food the chicken is preferred because of its taste. Eastern turkeys also have less fat therefore they are much healthy. If you are going to cook a chicken, they go and buy a full chicken or turkey and roast the bird in the oven and then remove its skin before serving. Roasting with the skin on makes the meat more flavorful. If you have one chicken or turkey you can have a heavy dinner for all of your food loving family because after the bird is cooked it is a lot for every one. You might have some leftovers which you can refrigerate
