One of the best ways to get good ideas for your child's 14th birthday is to ask the child how he wants to celebrate the birthday. You want to avoid birthday themes that are overly childish but not too grownup since your child is only 14 years old. If your child doesn't have any specific ideas in mind for the birthday, think about the child's favorite activities, foods or TV shows and surprise him. - When celebrating your child's 14th birthday, one idea is to hold a hip-hop dance party for your child and her friends. Play your child's favorite hip-hop CDs on the stereo in your living room and during the party, you can hold a dance contest for the attendants to participate in for prizes. Your child will judge each dancer and the winners will get a bag of hip-hop CDs to bring home.
- If your child enjoys roller skating, you can hold the birthday party at a skating rink and invite your child's friends to attend. Bring the birthday cake along with some light snacks such as hot dogs, finger sandwiches and hamburgers. You can also bring a camcorder with you and get funny interviews with your child, your spouse and other relatives, and your child's friends as well as footage of them skating.
- For 14 year-olds who are sports enthusiasts, you can hold a sports-themed party. If your child's birthday happens to be on the date of Super Bowl Sunday, invite his friends over and a few hours before the big game. You can divide the guests into two teams and let them play football in the backyard while someone who understands football can take the score. After the game, play a trivia game which tests the attendants' knowledge of the NFL's history and most memorable players. The winners will receive a set of football trading cards.
- If your daughter is interested in a classic jazz theme because she plays piano in the school jazz band, you can visit the party supply store and seek out paper plates, cups, napkins, and tablecloths that have musical notes or lyrics on them. You could also visit a music store and buy some real sheet music to paste on the dining room walls for the party.
