How to Remove a Jet Boat Motor

    • 1). Unclamp and remove the cover from the top of the outboard jet drive to access the engine hooks underneath. This will allow you to lift the motor directly off the transom rather than taking it off at an angle, as would happen if you attempted to lift the engine by any of the external hand grips.

    • 2). Hook the engine hoist or block and tackle to the engine hook, and then disconnect the electrical power from the boat's battery using the socket wrench.

    • 3). Disconnect the engine's fuel supply, and then unbolt the engine from the transom using the socket wrench. If you are removing an older jet drive motor, then the connection to the transom may be a series of hand cranks. Turn these in a counter clockwise direction to loosen the engine from the boat.

    • 4). Actuate the engine hoist or pull on the lead rope from the block and tackle to remove the jet drive engine from the boat's transom. It may be necessary to guide the clamps over the top of the transom, as some boats utilize a metal plate between the transom and the engine to help prevent damage due to the weight of the motor.
